There is one event that really wreaks havoc on a student’s daily routine
and that is power outage. In 1330/1332, this year’s four hour power outage was
doused in alcohol and smothered in laughter. We had fun with it. Ok, most of us
had fun with it. I could never resent a cause for procrastination, but the same
does not apply for Rapunzel. She had a major midterm on the next morning and
really needed to spend some time staring at a computer screen.
Aurora and I had just started a major project for an important business course
when the computer lab we had barricaded went dark. We were in the basement and
I was thinking of all the horror movie trailers I wish I had never seen. After
reuniting with my princesses we decided that the best way to wait out the return
of power was to secure a picnic table in the yard and have an impromptu party
in the dark. Unplanned moments like these end up being the most fun of my
student days. God bless unreliable electrical systems!
